British-era trade regulations persist in Bangladesh
A 2022 commerce ministry notice reveals that businesses engaged in international trade must secure up to 49 different permits and certificates.

Bangladesh continues to operate under trade control frameworks dating back to the British era. According to a public notice issued by the Ministry of Commerce in 2022, entities involved in international trade—including importers and exporters—are required to obtain as many as 49 distinct certificates and permits from the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports.
